Autumn is well and truly here in Devon. The leaves are changing colour in their spectacular way. My 18 year old daughter is deciding on her Halloween outfit, gone are the cute cats and witches hats, it's Lara croft this year for her. Things are changing, Christmas begins to loom on the horizon, nights are drawing in , fires are being lit.
We have been out and about in Devon to see the changing colours and seasons, making the most of bright sunny days, and commiserating on the damp dreary ones.
Today I thought I'd show you my black cat painting, not that I think there is anything wrong with black cats, or that they are evil or menacing. But all cats are unique, and I love them for that.
So I start with fairly simple drawing
Then I mask out the whiskers with masking fluid and a paper clip
Then I start on the eyes, I always have, getting as much colour and light into them as I can
There you see they make much more sense once the darks are added.
Then *POW* two eyes.!
Then lots of wet in wet for the ears.
And I hint at the nose
Now you have to be brave....lots and lots of wet in wet
Wet the paper around the eyes, nose , and think about where the light is I use touches of cerulean blue
But mainly lots of Paynes Grey ....lots of pigment on the brush, and go for it...go on be brave...
Let that dry and add any details around the eyes etc, then go again with water and pigment if needed.
One it dries it sort of settles into the paper , you can tinker a bit, but don't loose that wonderful watercolouryness of the whole thing
A lot of fun if you think you're brave enough !
