I have had a quiet few weeks in the painting department while my 2 children have been on holiday but I have been thinking a lot about how my painting has changed and developed.
I was an enthusiastic hobby painter for many years and I would sometimes only get a chance to paint while on holiday . I mainly paint outside and sometimes go months without picking up a paint brush. I never put animals or people in my work ....
I also loved my garden and studied horticulture flowers were a huge inspiration. I began to look at things more closely and think more about contrasts and light and dark....
The sea was another subject that held a special place in my heart and I became gripped by trying to capture it's beauty . I wanted so much to create pieces where the water and the waves looked real
Whatever I saw around me was what I wanted to paint , and so my move to Mid Devon initiated a love affair with the Devon hedgerow. Light and dark was a major part of my work and the shadows cast on the lanes. I loved all the wild flowers and the trees.
...and so as my professional journey began. I began to paint wildlife
beginning with hares and moving onto so many different animals
that have become so much a part of what I do, I have practised for for hours than I care to imagine and looking back at what I have done I think I will have to revisit some old favourites .I am itching to get back in the studio......
